MUSCATINE, Iowa–While many kids hate working on their handwriting, Amanda Elliott enjoyed calligraphy even from a young age. Always curious about different kinds of art, Elliott got her first set of calligraphy pens at the age of 10 and has enjoyed creating hand lettering ever since.
For years, Elliott created artwork featuring her calligraphy and custom lettered items for her friends and family. They urged her to start her own business. In 2017, she heeded their advice and started a Facebook page for Letters from Elliott. From there, her business blossomed.
Today, Elliott specializes in custom creations and loves working with customers to make their dreams realities. “A lot of the work that I do is personalizing pieces for customers looking for something hand lettered and one of a kind, either made by me or perhaps an item they already have that they would like me to personalize for them,” Elliott detailed: “I work on such a large variety of products, and can find a way to letter on just about anything. I love being able to get to know my customers and their story through chatting about what they have in mind for their project.”
Because Elliott focuses on one of a kind art work, she encourages anyone looking for signs for a special event or business, hand lettered home décor, personalized holiday items, and more to browse her website and then contact her via email or the Letters from Elliott Facebook page. “Since most of my work is personalized and made to order, it is best to contact me via social media, through my website, or by email so that we can discuss your ideas and come up with something together that will be a piece you love for years to come,” she emphasized.
In every piece she creates, Elliott takes pride in getting to use her art to connect with others. She also cherishes the opportunity to put her artistic talents to work. She shared: “I also really enjoy being able to do something that I love and once considered just a hobby. It is really a dream come true to be able to call myself an artist, it has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.”
This year, Elliott worked on several projects with the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Inspired by their mission, she decided to join them as a new member. “I really love my hometown and I am all about supporting local businesses whenever I can. I thought a partnership with the chamber would be a good fit and also help me continue to grow my small business with networking events and opportunities to meet potential new clients.”
Moving forward, Elliott anticipates completing more projects with them and to bringing her calligraphy to more people throughout Muscatine County. “I am so grateful for the opportunities they have given me so far and look forward to a long relationship with them – they are awesome!”
